I angered the gods of Wikipedia
March 18, 2007
Here’s a little rodomontade moment. T Campbell interviewed Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, for Broken Frontier. T comes at the interview from a webcomics POV, and here’s what he asked regarding my Delete Wikipedia routine.
In order to demonstrate the problems with our little corner of Wikipedia, one cartoonist assumed ten different Wikipedian identities (otherwise known as “sock puppets”) and used them to delete the listing for his own comic! How do you feel about this sort of activity? Exposure of flaws in the system, or just a headache?
JW: Not just a headache! Deeply immoral behavior aimed at undermining a system predicated on honesty and trust. It’s shameful and disappointing.
So there you go. Instead, what I needed to do was post to the Wikipedians in charge of that webcomics project, and ask them to re-evaluate their methods. Wait, I did? And a lot of people did? And nothing happened? The only other option would be to become a full-time Wikipedian and try to usurp the current project editors. This is akin to being mistreated by your bosses, and there’s no way to file a complaint, except to remain at the company for 20 years until you become their managers.
They say that every time someone breaks Wikipedia’s Good Faith policy, Jimbo Wales sheds a single tear.
Don’t believe Their lies.
Wikipedia is just a front for Echelon IV. Kris, you hacker you.
exposing flaws is immoral? somebody thinks pretty high of themselves and their work don’t they?
They say that every time someone breaks Wikipedia’s Good Faith policy, Jimbo Wales $#!%s a single brick.
Oh no! You abused a system that was ripe for it by attempting to alter the status of an entry about your intellectual property! How nefarious.
